Shard's memorial service was held
on Sunday, November 23, 7pm - 11:30 pm, at
The American Legion Hall
8664 West Grand Ave
River Grove, IL. 60171
Web forum and group messages from
the time indicate that Shard was an organ donor and that what
wasn't used to help others in need of healthy organs was cremated.
Shard was a member of a White Wolf
LARP. He also had a business where he created leather products
like pouches, many of which are still used. He was fond of saying
that by selling his pouches to you he was only leasing them and
that if you died he was taking them back.
Remembrances:
- Chicago area fan Kevin Laughlin (b.1968), known to fandom as Shard, died November 9
[sic] from head injuries sustained during a fall earlier in the week. He is survived by his wife Sarah and his two children Wolfgang and Zoe.

Yesterday we all received the very tragic news that Diefledermaus clan member Shard (Kevin Laughlin) had died this weekend from a severe head injury sustained in a fall. I can't say I knew the man well, as we only talked briefly at meetings, but I was genuinely saddened by the news, especially for his wife and children.
- Chicago area fan Kevin
Laughlin (b.1968), known to fandom as Shard, died November 9
from head injuries sustained during a fall earlier in the week. On
Saturday night, an auction to help with his medical expenses raised
nearly $2000 at Windycon XXX He is survived by his wife Sarah and his
two children Wolfgang and Zoe. Some of Shard's friends will be putting
together a book so his children can know him better when they are
older. Any stories which will explain to his children how many
people's lives were enhanced by their father can be sent to Mike
Potvin at xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com. (sfsite.com

- It comes with deep sadness that I pass
this news onto everyone in the Society. On November 8, 2003 Shard
passed away after a tragic fall from a ladder the day before, where he
hit his head on the cement floor.
In keeping with the seemingly endless
want to help others, His body was donated along with all of his organs
to be able to help others who could benefit from his otherwise perfectly
healthy body.
Please take a moment of time, to say a
prayer for him, his wife Sarah, and his 2 children Wolfy and Zoie.

- Shard lived in the Chicago area, making
pouches and leather doublets. He had a merchant spot at Pennsic in the
new area, across from the northernmost bazaar, and his booth had the
GIGANTIC (3 feet square) pouch.
